Keep Looking...

My experience of counselling training was more eye opening than I could have ever imagined. When do we ever get a chance of complete self-focus and exploration, of learning about our inner world's and what we want and need out of our lives. I think this is what has given me the drive and excitement over my career in counselling. It has provided me with an insight into what the client can gain and that is indescribable.

Everyone deserves inner peace and happiness. Everyone deserves the chance to overcome their difficulties and for someone to be there with them guiding them through this process. I would love to be a part of that and to be the one who sits with the client whilst they experience some of this.

Counselling is so much more of a process than I ever imagined. It is not just 'listening', it is not 'advice giving', it is not a want to 'help people'. It is a process of self-discovery, a process of exploration and learning, a process of investment in yourself and then in your clients. It is a life-changing and amazing process.

The quote above really summarised this for me, in a way that I wanted to share with you. Do not quit, do not give up, please keep looking. Look within yourself, for your passion, your goals, your happiness. Look for 'you'. Explore who you are, know who you are, know your self-worth. This will help guide you to find what you need and what you want and will show you how you can be true to yourself.

Don't get me wrong, this is not an easy process. I had many times over my training where I doubted myself, where I did not feel strong enough, where some of my fears and anxieties felt overwhelming. But I persevered and I found myself. I will always worry that I am 'not good enough', there will always be parts of me that are fearful and anxious, but I am learning to embrace some of those parts of me and to learn to listen to myself. I am learning that what I want and need are so important.

We are the only ones in control of our own destiny and we deserve the opportunity to focus on ourselves, to learn about ourselves and to make the best decisions for us. If you are struggling, please consider reaching out and speaking to someone. You deserve to be happy in your own skin and talking really can help you find this happiness.
